Want to avoid overdrafts? We’ve got you covered.

Bounced checks. Declined debit cards. No one wants them, but when life happens, you can rest assured that you have options. Here are steps for enrolling in Overdraft Protection1, as well as a guide to understanding and managing your Overdraft Preferences. Let’s get started!

Plan for the unexpected with Overdraft Protection

You can protect yourself from unexpected overdrafts by enrolling in Overdraft Protection, which enables automatic transfers to your checking account if your account balance dips too low. Once you're enrolled, we will automatically transfer any available funds from your linked Bank of Oklahoma savings, money market account, or personal line of credit into your Bank of Oklahoma checking account at the end of any business day on which your available balance is less than zero.

Enrollment in Overdraft Protection is easy

Overdraft Protection transfers are an option when you have a savings, money market or personal line of credit account linked to your checking account. Simply call us at (800) 234-6181, visit or schedule an appointment at a banking center.

  • You must have a savings, money market account or personal line of credit.

  • Contact a banker to link your accounts, call ExpressBank at (800) 234-6181, or schedule an appointment to visit us at the banking center location nearest you.

You've got options

Our Standard Overdraft Practices automatically apply to checking accounts, except where noted; there is no action required on your part. Under these practices, we will pay items like checks, automatic bill payments, recurring debit card transactions, and ACH transactions, at our discretion, when you don't have enough funds available in your checking account or linked Overdraft Protection account to cover these transactions. This ensures you won't default on your payments or other important commitments. However, a fee will generally apply1. You may also choose to decline this option.

This option does require you to opt in if you would like to participate, which can easily be done yourself through Online Access, our mobile app, or at a banking center.

  1. If you choose to opt in to receive this coverage, we will authorize and pay your ATM and everyday debit card transactions, at our discretion, when you don't have enough funds available in your checking or linked Overdraft Protection account to cover your transactions. However, a fee will generally apply.1
  2. If you choose to opt out, we will not authorize and pay overdraft items for ATM and everyday debit card transactions, and your transactions will be declined with no overdraft fee to you.

Managing your overdraft preferences for ATM and everyday debit card transactions

You can easily set up or change your Overdraft Preferences at any time in Online Access and our mobile app.

    • Under Bank Account Services on the main menu, select Overdraft Coverage Preferences.
    • In the checkbox next to your preferred account, select Opt-In or Opt-Out, and click Save
    • If you select Opt-In, the Overdraft Program Opt-In Form will populate on the page. Scroll to the bottom and click Agree, then confirm again when prompted.
    • Tap More at the bottom of the Accounts screen
    • Select Account Preferences under My Profile
    • Choose Overdraft Preferences
    • Toggle the switch on or off next to the preferred account, and click Next
    • If you toggle on, you will be asked to accept our Terms and Conditions. Click Okay.
    • Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Accept
  • You may also opt in or opt out at any time by visiting a banking center, or you can opt out by calling us at (800) 234-6181.

Declining all Standard Overdraft Coverage

You may ask us to exclude you from participating in Standard Overdraft Practices3. If you do so, we will return or decline most transactions (checks, automatic bill payments, and ACH transactions) if you don’t have sufficient funds in your checking account or linked Overdraft Protection account to cover the amount. Declining to participate in Standard Overdraft Practices does not prevent all instances where your account might become overdrawn, such as recurring debit card transactions. If such a transaction is presented when you don't have enough funds available in your checking or linked Overdraft Protection account to cover your transactions, you may be charged an overdraft fee. Simply call us at (800) 234-6181 or visit a banking center.

  • Stay in the know with 24/7 access to your account balance and transaction activity, through Online Access and our mobile app.

  • Our Opportunity Banking and Student Checking accounts do not include Overdraft Coverage for ATM and one-time debit card transactions, and therefore do not incur overdraft fees2.

Preventing overdrafts

Sometimes overdrafts happen despite the best intentions. Whatever the reason, the key to preventing overdrafts is knowing what's happening with your account, and ensuring you have enough money to cover upcoming purchases. Fortunately, we have tools to help you.


Disclosures

  1. If you are enrolled in Overdraft Protection, we will automatically transfer any available funds at no charge to you from your linked Bank of Oklahoma savings, money market account or personal line of credit into your checking account at the end of any business day on which your Available Balance is less than zero. Limited to one linked savings or money market account or personal line of credit as a source of funding. Accounts are not automatically linked. Please notify your banker which account should be linked. To the extent the funds in your designated funding account are insufficient to cover all overdrafts in your checking account, an Overdraft Fee may be charged for each overdraft not covered by the transfer, under the terms of the Depository Agreement for Transaction Accounts.   2. Although our Opportunity Banking and Student Checking accounts will help you avoid overdrawing your account in most situations, there may be times when your account could have a negative balance. One situation in which this could happen would be if a transaction for a certain amount is approved, but the final charge exceeds the balance in your account, such as when you use your debit card at a restaurant, and add a tip separately. In this example, the total transaction amount would result in you overdrawing your account, but we would not charge you an overdraft fee.   3. Your selection will be processed after close of the business day you elected to be excluded from participating in Standard Overdraft Practices. This means that if you made the request on Monday your selection would be updated after overnight processing and would be effective on Tuesday, provided Monday is not a federal holiday.
